Students typically have taken piano lessons 2-5 years or more, but perhaps some time ago and should have some keyboard facility. Students should also be able to read easy piano music hands together.

Students should know the following:
- All notes/keys on the piano
- How to read treble and bass clef
- Finger numbers for piano
- Intervals both on the staff and at the piano
- How to play triads and some closest position basic chords
- How to invert chords and play them in inversions
- Some basic harmonization at the keyboard (should be able to look at a simple right hand melody line with chord names written above the music and play those chords in the left hand while playing the melody in the right hand)
