About Renee Chernick
Renee Chernick is the Group Piano Coordinator at Illinois State University, where she teaches group piano and piano pedagogy classes. Mrs. Chernick joined the Illinois State University faculty in 2005, teaching general music and piano classes, as well as accompanying students on an as needed basis. She filled in for piano faculty on sabbatical and sick leave before joining the faculty full time. Renee has given presentations titled Moving on to intermediate piano repertoire after method books: How and when to do so and The business of teaching piano privately.
Prior to moving to Bloomington, Illinois in 2005, Renee taught piano in Northeastern Connecticut at The Rectory School, Pomfret Academy - a college Preparatory School, and the University of Connecticut. Mrs. Chernick also previously taught group piano classes at the University of Iowa, Northwestern University and Bradley University. Additionally, Renee served as the manager for the Central Illinois Youth Symphony, a non-profit organization that serves close to 200 students each year, for 11 seasons before resigning to teach full time at ISU.
Renee earned her Bachelor's of Music from Bradley University and Master's of Music from Northwestern University, both in Piano Performance and did her doctoral studies in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. Mrs. Chernick has over 25 years of private piano instruction experience and is the president of the Bloomington-Normal Music Teachers Association, the local MTNA chapter.
